Description
Tenuta Paolo Scavino Barolo Monvigliero 2017 is a refined expression of one of Verduno’s most distinguished crus. Known for its finesse, floral character and remarkable aromatic complexity, this Barolo combines a graceful, almost feminine elegance with the depth and structure expected from Nebbiolo. Founded in 1921, Tenuta Paolo Scavino has helped establish the reputation of Piedmont’s historic Barolo vineyards through wines that place terroir at the forefront.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine presents a deep ruby-red colour with developing garnet reflections. The nose is lifted and intricate, revealing floral aromas alongside balsamic nuances and a delicate layer of spice. On the palate, it is lively and beautifully balanced, with a savoury, full-bodied character supported by refined tannins and vibrant acidity. Its texture is exceptionally elegant, while the concentration and structure of the 2017 vintage suggest excellent ageing potential over the coming years and well beyond a decade with careful cellaring.
Production
The Monvigliero cru lies in Verduno, an area celebrated for producing particularly aromatic and graceful expressions of Nebbiolo. Paolo Scavino works with historic Barolo sites across the region to allow the individual character of each terroir to emerge. The grapes are harvested with care and vinified using the estate’s distinctive approach, which combines traditional respect for the vineyard with modern winemaking techniques. The result is a Barolo marked by purity of fruit, aromatic detail, power and elegance.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 18°C in a large Burgundy or Barolo glass to allow its floral and balsamic aromas to unfold. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended when enjoyed young, while older bottles may benefit from gentle decanting to separate any sediment. Its savoury structure makes it an excellent partner for truffle dishes, braised beef, game, roasted lamb, porcini mushrooms and mature hard cheeses.
Producer
Tenuta Paolo Scavino is a historic family-owned winery founded in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto, at the heart of the Barolo region. Today, Enrico Scavino runs the estate together with his daughters, Enrica and Elisa. The family owns 29 hectares of vineyards and also cultivates 20 historic Barolo plots across Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Roddi. With more than six decades of experience working with Nebbiolo and a long-standing commitment to distinguished cru vineyards, the estate is renowned for highly individual Barolo wines that unite regional character, complexity and precision.
