Description

Tenuta Paolo Scavino Barolo Bussia Vigna Fantini 2022 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most celebrated crus. Produced by the historic Scavino family estate, founded in Castiglione Falletto in 1921, it combines the depth and structure of traditional Barolo with the precision of modern winemaking.

Tasting Notes
Bright garnet in colour, with the brick-red edge that develops naturally in Nebbiolo. The nose is layered and expressive, revealing red cherries, raspberries and dried roses alongside violet, liquorice, spices and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is concentrated yet elegant, with firm, finely grained tannins, lively acidity and a long, savoury finish. The 2022 vintage offers both generous fruit and the structure needed for further development in bottle. It can be enjoyed after a few years of cellaring and should continue to evolve gracefully for well over a decade under suitable conditions.

Production
Made from Nebbiolo grown in the Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, a historic Barolo site known for producing wines with impressive structure, depth and longevity. The vineyard’s combination of hillside exposure and calcareous-clay soils contributes both aromatic complexity and firm mineral structure. Grapes are carefully harvested by hand and vinified with a focus on expressing the character of the vineyard, before the wine is matured in the traditional style required for Barolo. The result is a powerful yet precise wine in which the personality of the terroir remains at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after allowing the wine to come gradually to temperature. Decant for around 1–2 hours when serving young to soften the tannins and open the aromas; older bottles are best handled more gently and may only require careful pouring off any sediment. Its structure and savoury depth make it an excellent match for braised beef, roasted game, truffle dishes, wild mushroom risotto, rich pasta sauces and mature hard cheeses.

Producer
Tenuta Paolo Scavino is one of the historic estates of the Barolo region, established in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto. Today, the family business is led by Enrico Scavino together with his daughters Enrica and Elisa. The estate owns approximately 29 hectares of vineyards and also works with a number of historic Barolo sites across Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Roddi. With decades of experience and a strong commitment to cru-specific Nebbiolo, Scavino is recognised for producing Barolo wines that unite individuality, complexity, power and elegance.
