Tenuta La Fiammenga Freisa d’Asti Emersa 2022 is a distinctive expression of Freisa from the clay-rich heart of Monferrato in Piedmont. Its deep colour, intense aromatics and six months of maturation in French oak combine traditional regional character with a polished, contemporary style. The estate’s roots date back to 1596, reflecting a unique meeting of Flemish heritage and Italian winemaking tradition.

Tasting Notes
Deep, dark red in the glass, this wine opens with intense aromas and a refined layer of oak-derived complexity. On the palate, it is characterful and richly textured, with ripe fruit, subtle spice and a smooth, rounded structure. The tannins are mature and supple, giving the wine an elegant finish rather than astringency. The 2022 vintage is approachable now thanks to its soft tannins and balanced oak influence, but it should develop additional harmony and complexity over the next few years when properly stored.

Production
The grapes are grown in the clay-rich soils of Monferrato, a terroir well suited to producing structured and expressive Freisa. Following a 24-hour cold maceration, fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks with regular remontage to encourage colour and flavour extraction. The wine then matures for six months in French oak barrels, adding depth, refinement and gentle tannin integration.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C. Its supple structure and savoury character make it a natural partner for roasted or grilled meats, braised beef, wild boar, rich pasta dishes and mature cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but 20–30 minutes in a decanter can help open the aromas and further soften the oak and tannins.
