Tenuta Giustini, Patù Primitivo 2024

Tenuta Giustini Patù Primitivo 2024 is a generous, fruit-forward red from Salento, in the sun-drenched heel of Italy. Made without oak, it allows the character of Primitivo to take centre stage, combining ripe berry fruit with a pleasing freshness from the nearby Adriatic Sea. The name Patù pays tribute to the Papadopoli family’s Greek heritage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-red colour with attractive purple highlights. The nose is inviting and expressive, led by ripe strawberry and black cherry, with a soft, generous fruit profile. On the palate, Patù is full-bodied and smooth, with juicy dark-fruit flavours, rounded tannins and refreshing acidity that keeps the wine balanced despite Salento’s warm climate. As a unoaked Primitivo, it is designed to be enjoyed for its youthful, vibrant fruit rather than extended cellaring. Drink it over the next few years while its freshness and generous aromatics are at their best.

Production
The vineyards lie in Salento, relatively close to the sea, where fertile soils, abundant sunshine and moderating Scirocco and Tramontana winds create favourable conditions for Primitivo. The vines are carefully pruned in both winter and summer, with the grapes harvested by hand and rigorously sorted. In the cellar, low-temperature vinification and naturally occurring yeasts are used to preserve the purity of the fruit and maintain freshness. The wine is matured without oak, keeping its style supple, direct and fruit-driven.

Food & Serving
Patù is an excellent match for grilled meats, barbecued dishes, rich pasta preparations and robust cheeses. It also pairs naturally with fine charcuterie, making it a versatile choice for relaxed dinners and sharing boards. Serve lightly cool at around 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential, although a brief 20–30 minute airing can help open the wine’s ripe fruit aromas.

Tenuta Giustini is a family-run winery in Salento led by Giuseppe Papadopoli, working alongside his son Salvatore, an oenologist, and his son Federico, the cellar master. The family is dedicated to expressing the identity of local grape varieties through meticulous vineyard work, manual harvesting and careful cellar practices. Their wines reflect the warm Mediterranean setting while retaining freshness, and Patù serves as a distinctive homage to the family’s Greek roots.
