Description
Taylor’s Vintage Port 2017 Magnum is a standout release from one of the Douro’s most respected names, combining immense power, precision, and remarkable ageing potential in a grand-format bottle. With a tiny production of only the house’s most exceptional Vintage Port declarations, it sits firmly among the most sought-after ports of the vintage.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in color with a youthful purple rim, this 2017 is strikingly vivid and expressive in the glass. The nose is rich and layered, showing violet, dark forest berries, and subtle notes of eucalyptus and licorice.
On the palate, it is dense, concentrated, and highly structured, with impressive depth of flavor and a long, powerful finish. Despite its current intensity, this is a Port built for the cellar and should evolve beautifully over the next 50 to 75 years, gradually revealing even more complexity and harmony.
Production
Sourced from Taylor’s own top Douro properties—Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita, and Quinta do Junco—this Vintage Port comes from some of the region’s finest Group A vineyards. The different microclimates and soils of these estates contribute to the wine’s complexity, structure, and depth. The 2017 vintage was aged for approximately 20 months in wood before bottling, preserving its concentration and freshness while building the framework for long-term ageing.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed lightly chilled and served in large red wine glasses to allow the aromas to open fully. It can be savored on its own as a special occasion wine, but it also pairs beautifully with rich desserts, dark chocolate, blue cheese, or a perfectly cooked red pepper steak as suggested by the producer.
Producer
Taylor’s, officially Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman, has been shaping the world of Port since 1692 and remains one of the benchmark houses in the Douro. Known above all for its Vintage Port, the estate has long been a pioneer in the category, being among the first to buy its own vineyard holdings in the Douro in 1744 and later helping define modern Port styles, including LBV. Its wines are consistently ranked among the finest in the region and are revered by critics and collectors alike.
