Description

Taylor’s Vintage Port 2003 is a benchmark Douro vintage port from one of the oldest and most respected names in Portugal. Limited production, exceptional concentration, and the house’s long history of selecting only the finest vintages make this a collector-worthy bottle with serious aging potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, blackish-ruby core that hints at its power and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, with sweet black fruits, violets, graphite, molasses, burnt sugar, spice, and a touch of licorice, unfolding beautifully with air. The palate is full-bodied, dense, and deeply concentrated, yet remarkably harmonious. Flavours of black cherries, plums, raisins, blackcurrants, chocolate, and kirsch are wrapped in a firm but polished structure, finishing long, seamless, and wonderfully persistent. This is a vintage port built for the long haul and should continue to develop over decades.

Production
Sourced from Taylor’s own prized vineyards in the Douro Valley, including Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita, and Quinta do Junco, this vintage benefits from some of the region’s best classified vineyards. The sites are known for their varied microclimates, steep slopes, and old-vine material, which contribute depth, complexity, and natural structure to the wine. Harvesting is done with careful selection, and vinification follows the traditional port method, with fermentation stopped by fortification to preserve sweetness, richness, and freshness.

Food & Serving
Enjoy Taylor’s Vintage Port 2003 slightly chilled, ideally in large red wine glasses to allow the aromas to open up. It is excellent on its own, but also pairs beautifully with blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts, nut-based pastries, or a rich red pepper steak. Decanting is strongly recommended to separate natural sediment and to give the wine time to reveal its full aromatic range.

Producer
Taylor’s, formally Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman, has been producing port since 1692 and is widely regarded as one of the great benchmark houses in the region. It was among the first to invest in its own vineyards in the Douro and has played a major role in shaping the modern port industry, including pioneering Single-Quinta Vintage and inventing Late Bottled Vintage (LBV). Today, Taylor’s remains synonymous with power, precision, and longevity, and its Vintage Ports are consistently among the most acclaimed in the category.
