Description

Taupenot-Merme’s Chambolle-Musigny Combe d’Orveau 2024 is a refined Burgundy red with the graceful character for which Chambolle-Musigny is renowned. It combines fragrant red and dark fruit with elegant structure, fresh acidity and the depth to develop beautifully with bottle age. The wine comes from one of Burgundy’s most celebrated villages, where precision and finesse are prized above sheer power.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a vibrant ruby colour, with an expressive nose of fresh cherries and blackcurrants. With time in the glass, more complex nuances of truffle, leather and subtle earthy tones begin to emerge. On the palate, it is powerful yet finely balanced, combining concentrated fruit with firm, polished tannins and lively acidity. The structure gives the wine excellent ageing potential. It can be enjoyed in its youth for its freshness and fruit character, but should gain further complexity over approximately 8–15 years under good cellar conditions, developing more pronounced savoury and earthy notes.

Production
The vineyards of Chambolle-Musigny are known for their finely textured, mineral soils, which help give the wines their characteristic elegance and aromatic precision. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 5–8 days at 10°C, followed by 7–9 days of fermentation maceration with daily manual pigeage and carefully controlled remontage. The wine is then gently pressed using a pneumatic press at low pressure. Maturation takes place in oak barrels for 15–18 months, with approximately 40–50% new oak, adding depth while preserving the wine’s freshness and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
Serve at 15–17°C after allowing the wine to come gently up to temperature. A short decant of 30–60 minutes is recommended when enjoying the wine young, particularly to soften its tannins and open its aromatic profile; older bottles should be handled carefully and decanted only if necessary. Its combination of freshness and structure makes it an excellent match for roast duck, tender lamb, game birds, mushroom dishes, beef bourguignon and moderately mature cheeses.

Producer
Domaine Taupenot-Merme is rooted in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Although the domaine was formally established in 1963 following the marriage of Jean Taupenot and Denise Merme, the family’s involvement in winegrowing stretches back to the 18th century. Today, seventh-generation siblings Virginie and Romain oversee approximately 19 hectares planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their wines are recognised for their finesse and complexity, achieved through meticulous vineyard work and a restrained, terroir-focused approach in the cellar.
