Description
Taupenot-Merme’s Chambolle-Musigny 2024 is a refined yet powerful expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated village appellations. Made from Pinot Noir and shaped by the domaine’s meticulous, low-intervention approach, it combines fragrant fruit, elegant structure and the supple complexity for which Chambolle-Musigny is renowned.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with an inviting ruby colour and a complex nose of fresh blackcurrant and cherry, complemented by subtle floral nuances. With bottle age, its aromatic profile is expected to develop greater savoury depth, with hints of truffle, leather and earthy spice.
On the palate, it is concentrated and powerful, yet balanced by fresh acidity and firm, refined tannins. The finish is persistent and poised, suggesting excellent potential for further development in bottle. While approachable with decanting, it should gain additional complexity over the next several years and can reward careful cellaring.
Production
The grapes come from Chambolle-Musigny in Burgundy’s prestigious Côte de Nuits, a terroir celebrated for producing Pinot Noir with both finesse and depth. The fruit is harvested by hand before undergoing a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 5–8 days at 10°C. Fermentation and maceration continue for a further 7–9 days, with daily manual pigeage and controlled remontage. The wine is then gently pressed pneumatically at low pressure to extract balanced tannins. Maturation takes place in oak barrels for 15–18 months, with approximately 40–50% new oak.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 15–16°C to highlight the wine’s freshness, perfume and texture. A short decant of around 30–60 minutes can help open the youthful aromas, although older bottles are best handled gently. Its structure and savoury depth make it an excellent partner for roast duck, game birds, beef fillet, mushroom dishes, coq au vin and mature soft cheeses.
Producer
Domaine Taupenot-Merme is based in Morey-Saint-Denis at the heart of Burgundy and officially took shape in 1963 following the marriage of Jean Taupenot and Denise Merme. The family’s winemaking history, however, reaches back to the 18th century. Today, seventh-generation siblings Virginie and Romain manage approximately 19 hectares planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The domaine is respected for producing precise, complex wines that express their appellations through careful vineyard work and restrained cellar intervention.
