Description
Taupenot-Merme’s Bourgogne Passetoutgrain 2024 is a vibrant, fruit-driven Burgundy offering an accessible expression of the estate’s terroir. With its deep colour, lively freshness and gently rounded texture, it combines the easy-drinking character associated with the appellation with the finesse for which this Morey-Saint-Denis domaine is known.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a notably deep colour, followed by fresh, inviting aromas of ripe red and dark fruit. On the palate, it is lively and supple, with relatively low tannins and a subtle softness that gives the wine an appealingly smooth feel. Its freshness keeps the profile energetic and balanced, making it enjoyable in its youth while allowing it to develop greater softness and harmony over the next few years.
Production
The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a 14- to 18-day maceration in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Fermentation is carefully managed with daily manual punch-downs, helping to extract colour and flavour while preserving freshness. The wine then matures for approximately 10 months on its fine lees in stainless steel, where malolactic fermentation softens the acidity without sacrificing vibrancy. It is lightly filtered before bottling.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, at around 14–16°C, to highlight the wine’s freshness and fruit. It is a versatile partner for charcuterie, pâté, roast chicken, pork, sausages, mushroom dishes and lightly seasoned grilled vegetables. Decanting is not essential; if desired, a short 15–20 minute airing can open the fruit further.
Producer
Domaine Taupenot-Merme is based in the prestigious Burgundy village of Morey-Saint-Denis. Although the domaine was officially established in 1963 following the marriage of Jean Taupenot and Denise Merme, the family’s winemaking history reaches back to the 18th century. Today, seventh-generation siblings Virginie and Romain oversee approximately 19 hectares planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their wines are respected for their finesse and complexity, shaped by careful, terroir-focused vineyard work and a minimalist approach in the cellar.
