Tan Fruit’s ‘Cuvée Tan Fruit’ Chardonnay 2021 is a fresh, finely textured take on Oregon Chardonnay, showing just how refined and expressive the grape can be outside the classic rich, buttery style. Crafted by winemaker Jim Maresh, this blend brings together fruit from four of Oregon’s top sites and reflects the free-spirited, high-quality approach that has made Tan Fruit such an exciting project.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, it opens with a lifted, complex aromatic profile of ripe peaches, white flowers, freshly baked tart dough, a subtle matchstick note, and a faint whisper of candle smoke. On the palate, it combines generous depth and shape with a light, elegant touch, keeping the wine vibrant rather than heavy. Fruit and mineral tension sit at the center of the wine, giving it both clarity and length. While already very appealing now, its balance and structure suggest it can continue to develop beautifully over the next few years.

Production
This cuvée is built from Chardonnay sourced across four distinguished Oregon vineyards: Dundee Hills, Eola-Amity Hills, Yamhill-Carlton, and Chehalem Mountains, with the first two contributing the largest share. The blend showcases the diversity of Oregon terroir, from volcanic influence to cooler hillside sites, and comes from fruit selected for freshness, precision, and character. Compared with the other wines in the series, it is bottled a few months earlier, highlighting Jim Maresh’s flexible, no-rules approach to winemaking and his focus on capturing the wine’s most vivid expression rather than following convention.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, grilled halibut, lobster, creamy risotto, or spring vegetables with butter and herbs. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not necessary, though a short period in the glass will help the aromatics open up.
