Description
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2011 is a refined Blanc de Blancs from one of Champagne’s most celebrated houses, presented here in a distinctive double magnum wooden case. Crafted from Chardonnay and known for its elegance, precision, and gastronomic appeal, this vintage offers a more open and charming expression than the intensely concentrated 2008. Comtes de Champagne has long stood as one of the region’s benchmark prestige cuvées, prized for its purity and finesse.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass with a lively, fine mousse, this 2011 opens with generous aromas of orchard fruit and stone fruit, lifted by mandarin, pastry cream, and blanched almonds. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, soft and enveloping, with bright acidity balancing its creamy texture and giving the wine both energy and grace.
The finish is long and precise, with a subtle toasty depth beginning to emerge. While already highly inviting, it has the structure and balance to develop further complexity in bottle, gaining additional brioche, hazelnut, and toasted nuances over time.
Production
Made from Chardonnay sourced from top sites in Champagne, Comtes de Champagne is Taittinger’s flagship Blanc de Blancs and reflects the house style of freshness, finesse, and elegance. The 2011 vintage delivered a more immediate and generous character than some of the more taut recent releases, while still retaining the precision and mineral-driven backbone expected of the cuvée. Extended bottle aging in the original wooden case further supports its long-term development.
Food & Serving
Best served chilled at around 8–10°C, this Champagne shines with refined dishes such as scallops, lobster, grilled sole, sashimi, or poultry with cream-based sauces. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses and delicate pâtés. Decanting is not recommended; instead, allow it a few minutes in the glass to fully open.
Producer
Taittinger is one of Champagne’s great family-owned houses, with deep roots in the region and a reputation for producing elegant, Chardonnay-led wines. Based in Reims, the house is especially respected for its consistency, finesse, and the quality of its prestige cuvées. Comtes de Champagne remains one of its most iconic achievements, widely regarded as a reference point for premium Blanc de Blancs Champagne.
