Description

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a polished, Napa-born Cabernet that artfully balances ripe California fruit with the elegance and structure that made this estate world-famous. Sourced from a range of top vineyards across Napa Valley, Artemis offers a luxurious yet approachable expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, ideal for both collectors and weeknight indulgence. Named after the Greek goddess of the hunt, it’s crafted to capture the elusive character of Napa Cabernet in a single, harmonious blend.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Artemis 2021 shows a deep, vibrant ruby-purple hue that hints at its concentration and youthful energy. The nose is generous and inviting, with layers of blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, and dark cherry wrapped in notes of violet, mocha, graphite, and a touch of cedar from well-integrated oak. On the palate, this vintage is plush yet finely structured, with Cabernet Sauvignon providing a core of cassis, black plum, and crushed dark berries, while Petit Verdot adds color, spice, and floral lift. Silky, well-knit tannins and fresh acidity create a balanced, medium to full-bodied profile, leading to a long finish accented by baking spices, cocoa, and a subtle mineral edge. Enjoyable now with a brief decant, Artemis 2021 will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 8–12 years, gaining complexity and tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and dried herbs.

Production
Artemis 2021 is crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Petit Verdot sourced from select Napa Valley vineyards, each contributing its own terroir-driven nuances—from warmer valley floor sites giving generous fruit to cooler, hillside parcels delivering structure and aromatic lift. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve purity of fruit and tannin finesse, then carefully sorted at the winery for quality. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel to maintain freshness and precision, followed by aging in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to impart subtle spice, cedar, and toast without overwhelming the varietal character. The final blend is meticulously assembled to express the signature Artemis style: layered, refined, and distinctly Napa.

Food & Serving
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a versatile partner for richly flavored dishes. It shines alongside grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, and game, but also pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, aged hard cheeses, and dishes featuring rosemary, thyme, or black pepper. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both fruit and structure. Young bottles benefit from 45–60 minutes in a decanter to soften the tannins and open the aromatics, while more mature bottles can be served after a gentle splash to preserve delicate, evolved notes.

Producer
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is one of Napa Valley’s most storied estates, catapulted to international fame when its Cabernet Sauvignon triumphed at the 1976 Judgment of Paris, a blind tasting that helped put California wine on the global map. Located in the Stags Leap District of California’s Napa Valley, the winery is renowned for crafting Cabernet Sauvignons that marry power with grace, often described as having an almost Bordeaux-like elegance wrapped in New World richness. Over the decades, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars has garnered countless accolades and helped define the modern identity of Napa Cabernet, with Artemis serving as its broader Napa Valley expression—an accessible yet pedigree-driven introduction to this iconic producer.

You can’t talk about American Cab without mentioning Stags Leap. And Artemis is a truly fantastic example of just how good Cab from Napa can taste!

Structure, intensity, dark fruit, well-integrated oak, and pleasant tannins make this Cab one of the major players!

It’s not often that an American Cab needs some time in a decanter, but in this case it benefits from a short stint.

Fantastic glass!
