Steinberg is a historic vineyard site in the Rheingau, a region renowned for producing Rieslings with both concentration and lively acidity. As a Trockenbeerenauslese, the wine was made from individually selected, highly concentrated grapes, typically affected by noble rot, which naturally intensifies sugar and flavour. The result is a richly textured sweet wine in which the 1976 vintage’s maturity is balanced by Riesling’s characteristic freshness.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, at approximately 8–10°C, as an aperitif or alongside desserts such as apricot tart, quince, crème brûlée and almond-based pastries. Its acidity and mature fruit profile also make it a refined partner for blue cheese or foie gras. Decanting is not usually necessary, but careful decanting may be worthwhile if sediment is present; allow the wine a short period to open in the glass rather than leaving it exposed for too long.

Kloster Eberbach is one of Germany’s most historic wine estates, founded by Cistercian monks in 1136 and closely associated with the development of quality winegrowing in the Rheingau. The estate is now operated as part of the Hessian Staatsweingüter and remains one of the region’s most important and respected producers. Its long tradition, historic vineyards and focus on Riesling make this 1976 Steinberger Trockenbeerenauslese a particularly notable example of mature Rheingau wine.
