Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, nearly opaque ruby color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is layered and graceful, with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, tobacco, spice, and a subtle touch of vanilla from oak aging. The palate is full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, with ripe fruit, vibrant acidity, and finely integrated tannins. Silky in texture but built with real structure, it finishes long and persistent, showing both richness and poise. Production
The grapes come from Spottswoode’s own estate vineyards in Napa Valley, where careful vineyard stewardship helps express the site’s distinct terroir. The wine is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot adding nuance, lift, and structure. After harvest and fermentation, it is aged in French oak barrels to enhance complexity and support the wine’s powerful frame without overpowering its fruit.

This is a natural match for prime beef, grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully.
