Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color with impressive intensity. The bouquet is layered and expressive, offering blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, graphite, and subtle notes of cocoa and violet. On the palate, it is full-bodied and beautifully structured, with silky tannins, concentrated dark fruit, and a long, harmonious finish. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the core of the blend, while Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot bring lift, finesse, and complexity. Thanks to its balance of freshness, structure, and concentration, this vintage has excellent aging potential and should develop beautifully over many years, especially in magnum.

Production
The grapes come from Spottswoode’s own organically farmed estate vineyards in Napa Valley, where the fruit is hand-harvested and carefully selected to ensure only the best berries reach the cellar. The site’s terroir and meticulous vineyard work are central to the wine’s purity, structure, and sense of place. After fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels, which help shape its elegant texture and add layers of spice and complexity.

This is a wine that pairs naturally with richly flavored dishes such as prime rib, dry-aged steak, lamb, braised short ribs, or game. It also works beautifully with truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young, to allow the aromas and structure to fully open up.
