Solaia 2020

Solaia 2020 is one of Antinori’s most iconic Super Tuscans, crafted from the estate’s finest hillside fruit in the heart of Tuscany. Built around Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese, it combines international structure with unmistakable Tuscan character, a style that has made Solaia a benchmark since its debut in 1978.

Tasting Notes
Deep, concentrated ruby in the glass, Solaia 2020 opens with an elegant yet powerful aromatic profile of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark cherry, and Mediterranean herbs, layered with fine oak spice, cedar, and a subtle graphite edge. On the palate, it is richly textured and tightly composed, with ripe dark fruit, vibrant acidity, and polished tannins that bring lift and precision to the wine’s impressive depth. The Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone, while Sangiovese adds freshness and a vivid structural line, and Cabernet Franc contributes aromatic complexity. Though already enjoyable for its generosity and balance, this is a wine built for the long haul and should continue to develop beautifully over the next 15–25 years under ideal cellar conditions.

Production
Solaia comes from a 20-hectare parcel on the Tignanello estate, planted on a southwest-facing slope in Tuscany’s Chianti Classico zone, though classified as Toscana because of its international grape blend. The grapes are hand harvested and carefully sorted upon arrival at the winery before being moved by gravity into conical fermentation tanks. Fermentation is managed to achieve the ideal balance of tannin extraction and fruit purity, followed by around 18 months of maturation in new French oak barrels.

Food & Serving
Serve Solaia 2020 at 16–18°C and, if possible, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to open fully. It pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled beef, braised short ribs, wild game, and rich mushroom dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Its structure and complexity make it an excellent companion to refined, savory cuisine.
