Description
Sociando-Mallet 2022 is a standout Haut-Médoc, offering the kind of depth, structure, and precision that has made this historic estate a reference point for Bordeaux lovers. Known for producing wines that punch well above their classification, Sociando-Mallet combines classic Left Bank character with remarkable consistency and age-worthy appeal.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 vintage is expected to show a deep, concentrated color, hinting at its intensity and ripeness. The nose typically leans toward dark blackcurrant, plum, cedar, graphite, and subtle savory notes, with the kind of refined oak influence that supports rather than dominates.
On the palate, it should feel powerful yet composed, with firm tannins, vibrant freshness, and a layered core of dark fruit, earth, and mineral nuance. This is a wine built for cellaring, and while it can certainly be enjoyed young with proper decanting, it is likely to reward several years of aging with added complexity and harmony.
Production
Sociando-Mallet sits in the northern Médoc, where gravelly soils over clay and limestone help shape the wine’s firm structure and mineral edge. The estate is known for careful vineyard work and meticulous harvesting, allowing only fully ripe fruit to be brought in. Vinification follows a traditional Bordeaux approach, with parcel-by-parcel selection and élevage in oak to preserve freshness while building depth and texture.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for classic red meats such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, beef tenderloin, or duck breast, as well as rich dishes with mushrooms or truffle. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully.
Producer
Sociando-Mallet is one of the most respected independent estates in the Haut-Médoc, long admired for its uncompromising quality and traditional style. Though not part of the official 1855 classification, it has earned a loyal following for producing wines of real seriousness, ageability, and consistent excellence, often considered one of the finest value-driven names in Bordeaux.
