Description

Skov Snaps Porse from Hr. Skov is a Nordic snaps inspired directly by the wild Danish landscape of Southwest Jutland. Crafted from handpicked bog myrtle (porse), it captures the essence of the coastal heathlands and marshes in a refined, aromatic spirit. This non-vintage snaps continues an old Scandinavian tradition of using local herbs and botanicals to create distinctive, terroir-driven aquavits and snaps.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Skov Snaps Porse shows a clear, bright appearance with a slight oily viscosity that hints at its aromatic intensity. The nose is herbal and expressive, dominated by the unique scent of bog myrtle: fresh green leaves, resinous notes, a touch of bay leaf, and a subtle hint of citrus peel and forest floor. On the palate, it is dry, aromatic, and finely balanced, with gentle bitterness wrapped in soft, rounded herbal flavors. You’ll find notes of wild herbs, light spice, and a faint floral nuance, supported by a clean, well-defined spirit backbone. The finish is long, pleasantly bitter-herbal, and very clean, inviting another sip. As with most quality snaps, it doesn’t require aging to be enjoyed at its best, but stored properly it will hold its character and nuance for several years.

Production
The bog myrtle used for Skov Snaps Porse is gathered from the wild landscapes of Sydvestjylland, where coastal winds, sandy soils, and heathland vegetation create an intense, aromatic raw material. In early spring, the fresh green leaves are carefully handpicked, and later in autumn and winter, branches bearing the characteristic buds are harvested to add depth and complexity. These natural botanicals are then macerated in neutral spirit, allowing the full spectrum of their aroma to infuse the base. After a controlled extraction period, the snaps is carefully filtered and adjusted to bottling strength, preserving the pure, wild character of the porse without excessive sweetness or additives.

Food & Serving
Skov Snaps Porse is a superb companion to traditional Nordic cuisine: think pickled herring, smoked salmon, gravlax, shrimp, and other shellfish, as well as cured meats and mature cheeses. Its herbal bitterness also works beautifully alongside game dishes, pâtés, and rustic charcuterie boards. Serve well-chilled, ideally around 6–10 °C, in small snaps or tulip-shaped glasses to focus the aromas. Decanting is not necessary, but letting the glass rest for a minute or two after pouring allows the herbal bouquet to open up fully.
