Description

Simon Colin Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 2022 is a poised, finely etched white Burgundy from one of the appellation’s most characterful Premier Cru sites. Crafted in small quantities, it captures the tension and elegance that lovers of Chassagne-Montrachet seek, with a clear focus on purity of fruit and terroir expression. Les Vergers has long been prized for producing wines that sit beautifully between richness and finesse, and this 2022 is a superb example of that balance.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright, pale gold hue with youthful green reflections, promising freshness and energy. The nose opens with precise aromas of lemon zest, white peach and crisp pear, layered with notes of acacia blossom, chalky minerality and a hint of toasted hazelnut and buttered brioche from judicious oak aging. On the palate, the 2022 Vergers is both vibrant and refined, with a taut core of citrus and stone fruit wrapped in a silky, almost creamy texture. A fine spine of acidity drives the wine, carrying flavors of Meyer lemon, ripe nectarine, almond and subtle spice toward a long, saline, mineral-laced finish. The structure suggests that, while already highly enjoyable in its youth, this wine will gain in complexity over the next 5–8 years, developing more nutty, honeyed and tertiary notes with careful cellaring.

Production
Sourced from the Premier Cru Les Vergers vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet, this wine reflects a classic Côte de Beaune white Burgundy terroir: shallow, well‑drained limestone and clay-limestone soils on gentle slopes that promote excellent ripening while retaining freshness. Yields are kept low and harvesting is typically done by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy Chardonnay grapes reach the cellar. After careful pressing, the must is fermented in oak barrels, with a thoughtful proportion of new oak to provide texture and complexity without overshadowing the fruit. The wine is then aged on fine lees, with occasional bâtonnage depending on the vintage character, before being bottled with minimal intervention to preserve clarity and precision.

Food & Serving
This Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 2022 is an ideal partner for refined dishes such as seared scallops, poached lobster with beurre blanc, turbot or sole in a creamy sauce, and roast chicken with morels or truffled jus. It also pairs beautifully with fine cow’s milk cheeses like Comté, Beaufort or aged Gruyère. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. A gentle decant of 20–30 minutes before serving can help the wine open up, especially in its first few years, revealing additional layers of fruit and minerality.

Producer
Domaine Simon Colin represents a new generation in Chassagne-Montrachet, building on the long-standing reputation of the Colin name in the Côte de Beaune. Drawing on deep family roots in Burgundy, Simon focuses on precise, terroir-driven wines that showcase the individuality of each parcel, from village-level vineyards to distinguished Premier Crus like Les Vergers. The estate’s commitment to careful vineyard work, low yields and thoughtful, restrained winemaking has quickly earned it attention among Burgundy enthusiasts, positioning Simon Colin as one of the rising talents in this historic and highly prized white wine region.
