Description

Simon Colin’s Chassagne-Montrachet Chenevottes 2022 is a refined white Burgundy that captures the generous, sun-kissed character of the 2022 vintage while retaining the precision and mineral drive that Chassagne is famed for. Sourced from the Premier Cru climat ‘Les Chenevottes’, this wine offers a beautifully layered expression of Chardonnay with both immediate charm and underlying structure. As one of the rising stars of the new generation in Burgundy, Simon Colin crafts a style that bridges classicism and modern finesse, making this cuvée particularly compelling for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Chenevottes shows a bright, pale gold hue with subtle green reflections, hinting at both richness and freshness. The nose is immediately inviting, with notes of ripe orchard fruit—think yellow apple, pear, and white peach—woven together with lemon zest, crushed chalk, white flowers, and a delicate touch of toasted hazelnut and buttered brioche from careful oak élevage. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a silky, almost creamy texture balanced by a precise line of acidity and a fine, saline minerality typical of Chenevottes. Flavors of stone fruit, citrus curd, and fresh almond unfold gradually, supported by subtle spice and a gently smoky, flinty edge. The finish is long, pure, and mouthwatering, suggesting very good aging potential; while already accessible in its youth, this 2022 should develop additional complexity over 6–10 years, gaining more nutty, honeyed, and tertiary nuances with time in bottle.

Production
Les Chenevottes is a Premier Cru parcel situated on the eastern side of Chassagne-Montrachet, just below the Grand Cru hill of Le Montrachet, where thin limestone soils mixed with clay and stones provide excellent drainage and impart the wine’s distinctive minerality. Vines here tend to produce naturally low yields of concentrated Chardonnay. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve both aromatic purity and structural freshness. In the cellar, Simon Colin favors gentle pressing of whole clusters, followed by a cool settling of the must before fermentation in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new to enhance texture without overwhelming the terroir. The wine then usually matures on fine lees for several months, with occasional bâtonnage depending on the vintage, to build depth and complexity while maintaining tension and clarity.

Food & Serving
This Chassagne-Montrachet Chenevottes 2022 pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as seared scallops, lobster with beurre blanc, roasted turbot, or sole meunière. It also shines alongside roast chicken with morel or tarragon cream sauce, veal blanquette, or richly flavored poultry and fish terrines. For cheese, opt for creamy, mild options like Brie, Comté, or aged Gruyère. Serve slightly chilled, around 10–12°C (50–54°F), to allow the aromatics and texture to fully express themselves. Young bottles can benefit from 30–45 minutes in a decanter or a few minutes in a large-bowled glass to open up the nose and harmonize the oak and fruit.

Producer
Domaine Simon Colin represents the new generation of Burgundian talent emerging from one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s most respected winemaking families. A descendant of the Colin lineage—long established in the village and renowned for crafting benchmark white Burgundies—Simon has built his reputation on meticulous vineyard work and a thoughtful, terroir-driven approach in the cellar. Working primarily in and around Chassagne-Montrachet, he focuses on expressing the nuances of each Premier Cru parcel through precise viticulture and restrained oak use. Though still relatively young as a domaine, Simon Colin is already earning considerable attention among Burgundy lovers and critics, positioning himself as an important voice in the future of the Côte de Beaune.
