Description

Tenute Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino Manachiara 2015 is a single-vineyard expression from one of the estate’s most historic parcels, showcasing the powerful, structured side of Sangiovese from Montalcino’s eastern slopes. Produced only in the finest vintages, this is a Brunello crafted for depth, longevity and elegance. With fruit sourced exclusively from the Manachiara vineyard, it offers a precise snapshot of a celebrated terroir in a benchmark year for Brunello.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Manachiara shows a deep, vibrant ruby core with garnet reflections developing toward the rim, hinting at its evolution and complexity. The nose is intense and layered, with aromas of ripe black cherry, dark plum and macerated red berries, intertwined with notes of violet, dried rose, tobacco leaf and sweet spices. Subtle nuances of cedar, leather, underbrush and a touch of balsamic round out a beautifully refined bouquet. On the palate, this Brunello is full-bodied and firmly structured, with ripe yet authoritative tannins and a lively, balancing acidity that drives the wine through a long, persistent finish. Flavours of cherry, blackcurrant and wild red berries are joined by hints of licorice, cocoa, clove and a gentle mineral edge, reflecting its hillside origin. The 2015 vintage, known for its combination of richness and freshness, gives the wine both immediate appeal and serious aging potential. While already approachable with proper aeration, this Manachiara will continue to gain complexity and tertiary nuance over the next 10–20 years, rewarding patient cellaring.

Production
The Manachiara vineyard lies on the eastern, more elevated and breezy side of Montalcino, where a mix of clay, sand and mineral-rich soils, combined with excellent sun exposure, produces Sangiovese of remarkable concentration and aromatic purity. The vines here are among the estate’s oldest, planted over 40 years ago, and yields are kept low to ensure intensity and balance in the fruit. Harvest is typically carried out by hand, allowing for strict selection of perfectly ripe clusters from this single parcel. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels to preserve the grape’s varietal character and capture the nuances of the site, followed by extended maceration to extract color, tannin and aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged for several years in oak and bottle, in line with Brunello di Montalcino’s stringent DOCG regulations, resulting in a refined, ageworthy expression. Production is limited to around 10,000 bottles and only in outstanding vintages, underscoring the wine’s rarity and focus on quality.

Food & Serving
This is a classic, gastronomic Brunello that shines alongside rich, savory dishes. Pair it with grilled or roasted red meats, bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-braised lamb shank, game birds, wild boar ragù, or aged pecorino and other mature hard cheeses. It also works beautifully with mushroom-based dishes and truffle-infused preparations that echo its earthy complexity. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both structure and aromatics. Decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the tannins to soften and the bouquet to fully open.

Producer
Tenute Silvio Nardi is a respected Brunello di Montalcino estate with deep roots in the region, founded in the mid-20th century when Silvio Nardi became one of the first outsiders to invest in Montalcino’s then-emerging potential. The winery now encompasses vineyards on both the eastern and western sides of the appellation, giving it a broad palette of terroirs and enabling precise, site-driven expressions like Manachiara. Over the years, Tenute Silvio Nardi has played a meaningful role in raising the profile of Brunello worldwide through a commitment to careful vineyard management, low yields and thoughtful, terroir-focused winemaking. Its single-vineyard bottlings, including Manachiara, are considered among the estate’s flagship wines and are often cited for their combination of power, elegance and capacity to age gracefully.
