Description
Sieur d'Arques Blanquette de Limoux Première Bulle Méthode Traditionnelle Brut is a refined sparkling wine from the historic Limoux region in southern France, long believed to be one of the birthplaces of French bubbles. Crafted exclusively from the delicate first pressing of the grapes—the prized “mostblomster”—it delivers a particularly pure and elegant expression. As the flagship of the Première Bulle range, this cuvée showcases the very best of the estate’s expertise in traditional-method sparkling winemaking.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Blanquette de Limoux shows a pale straw-yellow hue with bright, silvery highlights and a fine, persistent bead of bubbles. The nose is fresh and expressive, offering notes of green apple, pear skin, white flowers and a hint of citrus zest, underpinned by subtle brioche and almond from aging on the lees.
On the palate, it is crisp and lively, with a well-balanced Brut dryness that lets the fruit shine without any heaviness. Typical Limoux character comes through with flavors of crunchy orchard fruits, a touch of quince and a gentle herbal lift, wrapped in a creamy mousse. The finish is clean and refreshing, with a light mineral edge that invites another sip. Enjoy it in its youth for maximum vibrancy, though a couple of years of bottle age will add further complexity to the toasty and nutty nuances.
Production
Sourced from vineyards around Limoux in the Languedoc-Roussillon, the wine reflects a cooler, elevated terroir influenced by the Pyrenees and Atlantic breezes, ideal for vibrant sparkling wines. Grapes are carefully harvested—typically in the early hours—to preserve freshness and natural acidity. Première Bulle is made exclusively from the first pressing of the grapes, yielding a more delicate and aromatic juice. Following the traditional method (méthode traditionnelle), the base wine undergoes a second fermentation in bottle, then rests on its lees to gain texture and complexity before disgorgement and a carefully judged Brut dosage.
Food & Serving
This Blanquette de Limoux is a versatile partner at the table. It pairs beautifully with oysters, prawns, sushi, and delicate white fish, as well as goat cheese, fresh cheeses, light chicken dishes and finger foods such as tempura or vegetable canapés. It also shines as an aperitif on its own. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F). Decanting is not necessary; simply open and pour, giving the wine a few moments in the glass to let the aromas fully unfold.
