Shafer Vineyards Syrah Relentless 2019

Shafer Vineyards’ Relentless 2019 is a powerhouse Napa Valley Syrah that lives up to its name: dark, concentrated, and built with striking intensity. Blended with 10% Petite Sirah and aged for 30 months in 100% new French oak, it’s one of the region’s most commanding expressions of Syrah, combining richness, structure, and remarkable depth.

Tasting Notes
The wine pours an inky, deep black-purple in the glass, hinting at the concentration to come. Aromatically, it is highly expressive, opening with blackcurrant, preserved plums, mulberries, smoked meat, licorice, and a wave of Indian spice, all wrapped in polished oak. On the palate, it delivers blackberry, black pepper, bacon, tar, black tea, and more licorice, with a dense, full-bodied texture and a long, persistent finish. Despite its power, the wine is already approachable with proper aeration, and it has the structure and balance to age gracefully for many years.

Production
Relentless 2019 comes from vineyards along the Vaca Mountains, just south of the Stag’s Leap District in Napa Valley, where warm California sunshine and rocky hillside sites help create ripe, concentrated fruit with natural structure. The blend is 90% Syrah and 10% Petite Sirah, and the wine was given an extended 30-month élevage in entirely new French oak barrels, adding polish, spice, and extra layers of complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a bold wine that calls for equally robust dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, venison, lamb shank, or smoked barbecue. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opening now to allow the aromas and textures to fully unfold.
