Description

Sept Merweh 2021 is a characterful Lebanese white wine that captures both the sun‑drenched hills of Batroun and the cooling influence of the nearby Mediterranean Sea. Crafted from rare, ancient Merweh vines, it offers a vivid expression of Lebanon’s winemaking heritage in a style that feels both authentic and contemporary. This is one of winemaker Maher Harb’s signature bottlings, helping to re-establish Merweh as a serious, terroir-driven grape on the world stage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Sept Merweh 2021 shows a luminous straw to pale gold hue, with a slight haze possible due to the minimally intervened style. The nose is immediately expressive, led by juicy mandarin and candied citrus peel, followed by tamarind, dried herbs, and a salty, sea-breeze lift that hints at its coastal origins. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet vibrant, with zesty, tangy fruit at the core—think mandarin, kumquat, and hints of stone fruit—wrapped in a fine phenolic grip that adds texture and seriousness. A distinct mineral line runs through the wine, giving it precision and length, and the finish is long, dry, and mouthwatering with a light, savory twist. Enjoy now for its energy and aromatic brightness, or cellar for 3–5 years to allow the texture and minerality to gain further complexity.

Production
The Merweh vines for Sept’s 2021 bottling are planted at high elevation in the hills of Batroun, where rocky, limestone-rich soils and steep, terraced sites naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. These are extremely old, often low‑trained bush vines, farmed with a focus on biodiversity and minimal chemical intervention to respect the local ecosystem. Harvest is carried out by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches, typically in the cool of early morning to preserve freshness. In the cellar, Maher Harb works with a low‑intervention philosophy: native yeasts for spontaneous fermentation, gentle pressing, and maturation in neutral vessels to avoid masking the grape’s character. The wine is typically bottled with minimal fining and filtration, and only modest additions of sulfur if needed, resulting in a transparent expression of Merweh and its mountainous Mediterranean terroir.

Food & Serving
Sept Merweh 2021 is a food-focused white that shines alongside Mediterranean and Levantine dishes. It pairs beautifully with mezze (hummus, baba ghanoush, muhammara), grilled or baked fish with citrus and herbs, octopus, shellfish, or roasted chicken with sumac and thyme. Its zesty fruit and gentle grip also work well with fresh cheeses, herb-laced salads, and lightly spiced vegetable dishes. Serve chilled at about 10–12°C (50–54°F) to balance freshness and aroma; a short 15–20 minute opening or a brief decant can help the wine unfurl its citrus, savory, and mineral notes.

Producer
Sept is the personal project of Lebanese winemaker Maher Harb, who has become one of the leading voices in the country’s modern wine renaissance. Based in the coastal, mountainous region of Batroun, Sept focuses on organic, small‑parcel viticulture and native Lebanese varieties like Merweh, aiming to capture the specificity of each site and season. Working with high‑altitude, old vineyards and a minimal‑intervention approach in the cellar, Maher has helped bring international attention to Lebanon’s indigenous grapes and its potential for refined, terroir-driven wines. Sept’s bottlings are now sought after by wine lovers looking for authentic, regionally expressive wines from the Eastern Mediterranean.
