Sena, Aconcagua Valley 2019

Seña 2019 is one of Chile’s benchmark icon wines, created to express the full potential of the Aconcagua Valley through a refined blend of Bordeaux grape varieties. Founded in 1995 as a collaboration between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, Seña combines Chilean character with an ambitious, internationally minded winemaking style.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a deep, clear ruby-red colour with vivid purple highlights. Its aromatic profile brings together red and black fruits with savoury notes of pepper, dill and rosemary, followed by subtle hints of pastry and oak. On the palate, Seña 2019 is fruit-driven yet firmly structured, with impressive complexity, concentration and depth. Ripe fruit is balanced by a refreshing line of acidity and refined tannins, while the oak contributes texture and nuance rather than overpowering the wine. This is a serious vintage with excellent ageing potential and should develop additional savoury and tertiary complexity over the coming years.

Production
Produced in Chile’s Aconcagua Valley, Seña follows a sustainable approach informed by organic and biodynamic principles. The wine is made as a blend of Bordeaux grape varieties, designed to reflect the character of the estate and its distinctive terroir. Following vinification, the 2019 vintage was matured for 22 months: 90% in French oak barrels, 80% of them new, and 10% in large oak foudres.

Food & Serving
Its structure and layered fruit make Seña 2019 an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and other richly flavoured grilled or braised meats. It also pairs well with mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth, to allow its aromas and texture to open fully.

Seña was established in 1995 by Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, who shared the ambition of creating a Chilean wine capable of achieving world-class recognition. Based in the Aconcagua Valley, the estate is regarded as Chile’s first iconic wine and has become an important symbol of the country’s fine-wine potential. The name Seña means “sign” or “signature”, reflecting the founders’ shared passion for quality and their partnership. Today, the estate remains committed to sustainable viticulture and the long-term expression of its unique Chilean origin.
