Sena, Aconcagua Valley 2018

Seña 2018 is one of Chile’s landmark red wines, created to express the full potential of the Aconcagua Valley. Founded in 1995 as a collaboration between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, Seña became Chile’s first iconic wine—a refined Bordeaux-style blend shaped by ambition, place and long-term vision.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep violet-red colour in the glass. Its expressive nose combines red and black fruits with layered notes of cedar, tobacco and chocolate. On the palate, it is elegant and generously fruity, with juicy fruit character balanced by polished structure and the savoury influence of oak. With its concentration, freshness and careful maturation, the 2018 vintage has the structure to develop further in bottle while already offering considerable complexity.

Production
Produced in Chile’s Aconcagua Valley, Seña is made from a blend of Bordeaux grape varieties, although the specific composition of this vintage is not provided. The estate is committed to sustainable winegrowing and works according to organic and biodynamic principles. Following vinification, the wine matured for 22 months, with 85% aged in new French oak barrels and 15% in large foudres, combining depth and oak complexity with a more spacious, fruit-preserving maturation style.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving to allow the wine’s fruit, spice and tobacco notes to unfold. Its elegant structure pairs beautifully with roast beef, venison, lamb, grilled entrecôte and richly flavoured mushroom dishes. It can also be enjoyed alongside mature hard cheeses.

Seña was established in 1995 by Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, who shared the ambition of producing a wine capable of showcasing Chile’s exceptional potential. Located in the Aconcagua Valley, the estate has become a significant name in Chilean fine wine and is widely regarded as the country’s first iconic wine. The name Seña means “sign” or “signature”, reflecting the founders’ shared commitment to quality, passion and a distinctive expression of Chilean terroir.
