Sena, Aconcagua Valley 2017

Seña 2017 is an iconic Chilean red from the Aconcagua Valley, created to express the country’s potential for world-class Bordeaux-style wines. Founded in 1995 as a collaboration between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, Seña combines Chilean identity with refined international winemaking and a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a clear garnet-red colour with attractive purple hues. Its expressive nose offers notes of blueberry, cherry, clove and violet, complemented by a delicate touch of liquorice. On the palate, Seña 2017 is fresh, juicy and lively, with elegant tannins that provide definition and structure. The balanced fruit and polished texture make it approachable now, while its concentration and careful oak maturation give it the potential to develop further in bottle over the coming years.

Production
Produced in Chile’s Aconcagua Valley, Seña is a blend of Bordeaux grape varieties designed to reflect the character and potential of its terroir. The winery follows sustainable practices inspired by organic and biodynamic principles. After vinification, the wine was matured for 22 months, with 88% aged in French oak barrels—70% of them new—and the remaining 12% in large foudres.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to breathe. Decanting for around 30–60 minutes can help reveal the wine’s aromatic detail and soften its tannins, particularly when enjoyed young. Its fresh structure and elegant fruit make it a natural partner for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, venison, mushroom dishes and richly flavoured hard cheeses.

Seña was established in 1995 by Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, who shared the ambition of creating a wine that could demonstrate Chile’s full potential. Based in the Aconcagua Valley, the estate is widely regarded as one of Chile’s first iconic wine projects. The name Seña means “sign” or “signature”, reflecting the founders’ shared passion for excellence and their desire to create a distinctive expression of Chilean wine.
