Description
Santenay Les Pierres Sèches Domaine Chartron Jean 2023 is a fine Burgundy white that brings together freshness, precision, and the classic minerality of Santenay. Produced in one of the Côte de Beaune’s most respected villages, it offers an elegant expression of Chardonnay shaped by Burgundy’s long winemaking tradition.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, with a bright, youthful sheen. The nose is delicate and refined, opening with citrus blossom, green apple, white peach, and a subtle flinty note that hints at the stony terroir.
On the palate, it is crisp and well-balanced, with clean orchard fruit, lemon zest, and a fine chalky-mineral edge. The finish is refreshing and focused, with enough structure to suggest short- to medium-term aging, during which it can gain additional depth and complexity.
Production
Santenay in the southern Côte de Beaune is known for limestone-rich soils and a cool climate that helps preserve freshness and aromatic lift. The name "Les Pierres Sèches" suggests a stony parcel, likely contributing to the wine’s mineral character. As with many Burgundy whites, harvesting is typically carried out by hand, with gentle pressing and careful vinification designed to protect purity and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled fish, shellfish, roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, and soft cheeses such as Brie or Chaource. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not usually necessary, though a brief aeration can help the wine open up if served young.
Producer
Domaine Chartron Jean is part of Burgundy’s deep-rooted tradition of small-scale, terroir-driven winemaking. While details vary by cuvée, the domaine is associated with careful vineyard work and a style that emphasizes balance, finesse, and regional identity—qualities that have helped make Burgundy one of the world’s most admired wine regions.
