San Marzano Collezione Cinquanta 7 2019 is a rich and generously styled red wine from Puglia, shaped by the region’s sun-drenched Mediterranean climate and distinctive red soils. The wine reflects San Marzano’s long-standing tradition of producing expressive wines in the heart of southern Italy.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep, richly coloured appearance. On the nose, it is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe plums, red fruit jam and sweet spices, including vanilla from its oak maturation. The palate is full-bodied, generous and smooth, with concentrated fruit, a rounded texture and a lingering finish. It is enjoyable now for its soft, approachable character, while careful cellaring should allow the fruit and oak nuances to integrate further over the next few years.

Production
San Marzano is located in Puglia, between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, in an area associated with the renowned Primitivo di Manduria appellation. Vineyards grow in red soils alongside ancient olive groves and face challenging conditions, including summer drought, occasional frost and hot Sirocco winds. The grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing a period of cold maceration, followed by alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, after which the wine matures for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Food & Serving
Its rich, soft profile makes Collezione Cinquanta 7 an excellent match for hearty appetisers, pasta with rich meat-based sauces, grilled or braised red meat and game. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help open the wine’s ripe fruit and spice aromas, particularly when served young.

Cantine San Marzano was founded in 1962, when 19 local winegrowers joined forces in the town of San Marzano. Today, the cooperative brings together more than 1,200 growers and combines modern, technologically advanced facilities with the region’s deeply rooted winemaking traditions. Situated in the heart of Puglia’s Primitivo di Manduria area, San Marzano has become one of the region’s most recognisable producers, known for crafting full-bodied, polished wines that express the character of the Salento terroir.
