Description
Romuald Valot Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2023 is a beautifully crafted red Burgundy that showcases the pure, varietal charm of Pinot Noir in a fresh, approachable style. Fragrant, precise and delicately structured, it offers a classic expression of red Burgundian fruit with just enough complexity to appeal to both newcomers and seasoned Pinot lovers. As a regional Bourgogne, it captures the historic finesse of Burgundy in a wine made for real-world drinking and effortless pleasure.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a bright, clear red hue with luminous ruby reflections. The nose opens generously with a basket of red fruits typical of Pinot Noir—blackcurrant, morello cherry and redcurrant—layered with subtle smoky tones, humus-like earthiness and a faintly animal nuance that hints at its Burgundian roots.
On the palate, it is rich yet refined, with a firm but supple texture and elegant, finely woven tannins. The fruit is vibrant and juicy, supported by fresh acidity that keeps everything in balance and makes the wine wonderfully drinkable. Earth and smoke notes lend depth without overpowering the purity of the fruit. Enjoyable now for its youthful energy, it also has the structure to develop additional complexity over the next 3–6 years, gaining more savory and gamey nuances with time in bottle.
Production
This Bourgogne Pinot Noir is sourced from classic Burgundian terroirs dominated by limestone and clay, which naturally favor Pinot Noir’s elegance and aromatic precision. The grapes are carefully selected at harvest to ensure optimal ripeness and healthy fruit, then gently vinified to preserve freshness and varietal purity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by maturation that may include time in oak to add subtle spice and texture, while keeping the focus firmly on finesse, balance and drinkability.
Food & Serving
This wine is a natural partner for traditional Burgundian fare and flavorful everyday dishes alike. Try it with meat in sauce or grilled cuts such as a good Charolais beef fillet in a red wine reduction, fondue bourguignonne, or characterful cheeses like Époisses, Coulommiers and similar creamy, washed-rind styles. With a few years of age, it will pair beautifully with lamb, duck and game birds, where its developing savory notes will shine. Serve at 14–16°C, slightly cooler than room temperature, and consider a short 30–45 minute decant while young to open up the aromatics.
Producer
The story behind this bottling is rooted in one of Burgundy’s enduring family enterprises. It began in 1947, when André Goichot founded his négociant house, later investing in his own vineyards with the purchase of Château de la Guiche in 1976 and the Les Dressolles parcel in Meursault—decisive steps that shaped the future of the family business. Today based in Beaune, the Goichot family remains one of the last independent, family-owned négociants in Burgundy, partnering closely with dedicated growers such as Romuald Valot to craft expressive regional wines. Their growth has included the exclusive distribution of Domaine des Guignottes in 2015 and, in 2016, the acquisition of Château du Cray, a historic estate whose vineyards surround the château on east- to south-east-facing slopes. This combination of long-standing regional roots and a modern, quality-focused approach underpins the character and reliability of the wines they help bring to market.
