Rocche dei Manzoni’s Barolo DOCG 2021 is a striking modern expression of Nebbiolo from Monforte d'Alba, a commune known for producing some of Barolo’s most powerful and structured wines. Valentino Migliorini helped shape the estate’s reputation for combining depth, elegance, and earlier accessibility through a careful, pioneering use of small oak barrels.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo shows a deep, garnet-toned color with youthful brightness at the rim. The bouquet is layered and expressive, opening with dark berries, peach skin, citrus, dried roses, tobacco, and a distinct mineral complexity that gives the wine real drive and lift. On the palate, it is both powerful and finely etched, with firm structure wrapped in remarkable harmony. The finish is long and resonant, carrying on for minutes with savory, floral, and earthy nuances. While it has the structure to age gracefully, the 2021 already feels open and complete, offering immediate enjoyment without the need for long cellaring.

Production
The wine comes from Monforte d'Alba in Piemonte, where the terroir is known for giving Barolo wines depth, dark fruit expression, and a naturally firm backbone. Rocche dei Manzoni has become known for a more modern interpretation of the region, with harvesting and cellar work designed to preserve precision while softening the wine’s structure. A hallmark of the estate is its use of small new oak barrels, applied with careful restraint to help round out the Nebbiolo and make the wine more approachable earlier in its evolution. The result is a Barolo that remains true to its origin while showing polish, integration, and immediate aromatic appeal.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16°C in large Burgundy-style glasses to allow the wine’s aromatics and structure to unfold fully. A brief decant is recommended if opening soon after release, though this vintage is already very approachable. It pairs beautifully with beef tenderloin, beef Wellington, truffle dishes, braised meats, and other richly flavored, slow-cooked specialties.
