Rivera, Scariazzo Fiano 2023 White

Rivera’s Scariazzo Fiano 2023 is a refined southern Italian white that shows why this historic estate is regarded as one of Puglia’s leading producers. Made from the local Fiano grape, it combines elegance, texture, and freshness, with a style rooted in the cool influence of Castel del Monte and the Adriatic coast.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it presents a bright, luminous straw-yellow color. The nose offers clean white fruit, citrus, and subtle floral notes, with a gentle hint of complexity from the partial oak ferment and extended maturation. On the palate, it is vibrant and expressive, balancing ripe white fruit with crisp acidity and a rounded, layered mouthfeel. The oak adds a touch of depth without overpowering the wine’s freshness, while the concrete aging helps preserve purity and minerality. It is drinking beautifully now, but should also gain additional nuance over the next 2-3 years.

Production
Sourced from Rivera’s estate in the DOCG Castel del Monte zone in northern Puglia, the wine benefits from vineyards shaped by cooling hillside breezes and the maritime influence of the Adriatic Sea. The region’s terroir is well suited to local varieties, giving the Fiano both aromatic precision and structure. Around 20% of the wine is fermented in oak, with the remainder in stainless steel, followed by 9 months of maturation in concrete vats to preserve freshness while building texture.

Food & Serving
This Fiano is an excellent match for grilled fish, shellfish, seafood pasta, risotto with vegetables, and light Mediterranean dishes. Serve chilled at around 8-10°C. Decanting is not necessary, but a short opening in the glass can help reveal its subtle aromatic layers.

Rivera has been family-run by the de Corato family for decades and is widely considered one of the benchmark estates in Puglia. Based in the Castel del Monte DOCG area since it gained status in 2001, the winery is known for its elegant, well-structured wines made from both indigenous white and red varieties. Rivera’s reputation rests on producing wines with finesse, character, and excellent drinkability.
