Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Pyramide Purus Riesling presents a pale lemon hue with green reflections, signaling its youthful energy and freshness. The nose is lifted and precise, with aromas of lime zest, green apple, white peach and crunchy pear layered over smoky slate, wet stone, and a hint of wild herbs and white blossom. On the palate, this is dry, linear and finely textured, with a racy acidity that keeps everything tight and focused. Citrus and orchard fruit notes lead—think lime, grapefruit and green apple—supported by subtle stone fruit and a salty, stony minerality that is very classic Mosel. The finish is long, clean and mouthwatering, with a faint herbal and floral echo. Enjoyable now for its crisp, youthful tension, it has the structure to evolve nicely over the next 3–7 years, gaining complexity and a touch of creaminess while retaining its core of mineral freshness.

Production
Sourced from steep, slate-rich vineyards in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, the Pyramide Purus Riesling reflects the cool climate, poor soils and dramatic slopes that define this historic region. The Trossens farm their vines organically and biodynamically, working by hand on the inclines and encouraging biodiversity in and around the vineyards. Grapes are picked by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve acidity and aromatic precision. In the cellar, Rita and Rudolf follow a low-intervention philosophy: gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and minimal additions or handling, allowing the Riesling and its slate terroir to speak clearly in a dry, transparent style.

This dry Riesling is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with fresh seafood (oysters, prawns, ceviche), sushi and sashimi, light fish dishes, and crisp salads with citrus or herb dressings. It also complements lightly spiced Asian cuisine, vegetable dishes, goat cheese, and simple poultry preparations such as roast chicken with lemon and herbs. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C to highlight its acidity and aromatics. A brief decant of 15–20 minutes can help the wine open up aromatically, especially in its youth, but it is not strictly necessary.
