Rippon Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2019

Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2019 is a standout expression of Central Otago, crafted from fully mature Pinot Noir vines on Rippon’s steep biodynamic parcels above Lake Wānaka. It combines the finesse and detail often associated with great Burgundy with the vivid fruit, mineral drive, and intensity that make Central Otago so distinctive.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with violet reflections. The nose is highly aromatic, opening with violet and lavender, then layering in red cherry, blackberry, and rhubarb, with subtle notes of graphite, liquorice, and crushed stone. The palate is taut and finely structured, with bright acidity, fine dusty tannins, and a precise core of juicy fruit. It finishes long, linear, and distinctly mineral, showing both immediate charm and the depth to age gracefully over many years.

Production
The fruit comes exclusively from mature vines grown on Rippon’s steep, biodynamically farmed slopes overlooking Lake Wānaka in Central Otago. The grapes are hand-harvested in 10 kg cases and carefully sorted on arrival. Fermentation is carried out parcel by parcel in small stainless-steel tanks, with temperature-controlled maceration lasting 14 to 28 days depending on the site. Around 17% is matured in new French oak, with the remainder aged in older barrels up to four years old, before 16 months of sur lie aging without fining or filtration to preserve texture and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, lamb, mushroom dishes, game birds, and dishes with earthy or truffle notes. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic detail.
