Rijckaert, Uva Cordata Chardonnay 2021 White

Rijckaert Uva Cordata Chardonnay 2021 is a refined white from Pouilly-Fuissé that brings together ripe Burgundy character and a distinctly precise, site-driven style. Made entirely from Chardonnay and sourced from cooler, mostly west-facing vineyards, it balances richness with finesse — a hallmark of the Rijckaert approach. The domaine’s roots go back to Jean Rijckaert’s work in Mâconnais in 1990, later expanded by his founding of Domaine Rijckaert in 1998.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows an inviting, luminous straw-gold color. The nose opens with notes of ripe orchard fruit and stone fruit, layered with toast and a subtle cedar nuance that adds depth and complexity. On the palate, it is generous and structured, with a broad, ripe fruit profile held in check by the freshness of the cooler vineyard sites and the tension of limestone soils. The finish is long and elegant, with enough concentration to suggest good aging potential over the next few years.

Production
The wine comes from a blend of vineyards in relatively cool areas of Pouilly-Fuissé, mainly on west-facing slopes with limestone-rich, rocky soils. These conditions help preserve freshness while giving the wine its characteristic power and mineral backbone. Fruit is carefully harvested and fully processed by the estate, with vinification carried out close to the vineyards for maximum precision and control.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is an excellent match for white fish served with a rich, creamy sauce, where its structure and freshness can complement the dish beautifully. It is best served chilled, around 10–12°C, and does not require decanting, although a short period in the glass will help the aromatics open up.

Domaine Rijckaert was founded by Jean Rijckaert, a Belgian passionate about Burgundy and Jura, who began making wine in Mâconnais in 1990 and established the domaine in 1998. The estate is known for its meticulous, hands-on approach, with separate cellars in each region to stay as close as possible to the vineyards. Since meeting Florent Rouve in 2013, Jean has gradually passed on the reins to him, continuing a shared philosophy of wines that combine richness, power, and finesse.
