Ridge Vineyards Lytton Estate Petite Sirah 2021 is a striking single-vineyard red from one of California’s most respected producers, offering remarkable concentration and old-vine character at an impressively modest price. Sourced from the historic Lytton Springs vineyard, where Petite Sirah was first planted in 1901, it reflects both heritage and craftsmanship in equal measure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an inky, almost opaque color with a vivid purple rim. The nose is layered and expressive, with blue fruits, leather, liquorice, lavender, menthol, and a subtle gravelly minerality. On the palate, it is bold and deeply flavored, with impressive density and a mouth-filling texture. The aromatic notes carry through beautifully, supported by ripe structure and good balance. This is a wine with plenty of immediate appeal, but it also has the concentration and backbone to develop further with a few years in bottle.

Production
The grapes come from the Lytton Springs vineyard in California, a site with a long history and a strong reputation for sustainably farmed old-vine fruit. The fruit is de-stemmed before pressing, and fermentation takes place with whole berries and gentle pump-overs to extract flavor and structure without overworking the skins. After fermentation, the wine matures for 16 months in American oak barrels, 15% of which are new.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for grilled or roasted meats, especially lamb, beef, and game, as well as hearty dishes like barbecue ribs, braised short ribs, or mushroom-based mains. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to let the wine open and show its full aromatic depth.
