Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2021 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards’ Lytton Springs is one of California’s most iconic old-vine Zinfandel blends, first produced in 1972 and still crafted with impressive consistency today. This 2021 Magnum brings together Zinfandel with Carignan, Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah for a deeply expressive wine that reflects both the historic Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley and Ridge’s long-standing commitment to classically styled California red wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a very dark, almost inky color. The nose is layered and inviting, with aromas of ripe blackberry, blood orange, pepper, liquorice, tobacco leaf and dried flowers. The palate is full and generous, with impressive depth and a seamless repetition of the aromatic profile. Rich fruit is balanced by spice, savory detail and firm structure, giving the wine both immediate appeal and the potential to age gracefully for years to come.

Production
The grapes are sourced from the sustainably farmed Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, a site known for its warm California terroir and old-vine plantings. The fruit was destemmed before fermentation, then matured in American oak barrels, with around 10% new oak and the remainder ranging from one to four years old.

Food & Serving
This is a bold, characterful red that works beautifully with grilled or roasted meats, barbecue, lamb, beef short ribs and richly seasoned dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for an hour or so to let the wine open fully, especially from magnum format.
