Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs is one of California’s great Zinfandel-based blends, drawn from the historic Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. First made in 1972, it has become a benchmark wine for the region, combining depth, structure, and remarkable consistency vintage after vintage.

Tasting Notes
Deep, nearly opaque in colour, this 2021 opens with a generous nose of ripe blackberry, blood orange, black pepper, liquorice, tobacco leaf, and dried flowers. On the palate it is bold and expansive, with layers of dark fruit, spice, and savoury nuance unfolding in a seamless, balanced way. The blend’s structure gives it real staying power, while the concentration and freshness suggest excellent aging potential. It is the kind of wine that can be enjoyed for its immediate richness, but will likely gain further complexity with a few years in bottle.

Production
Sourced from Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, the wine reflects the warm, dry Californian terroir that helps Zinfandel and its supporting varieties ripen fully while retaining character. The fruit is sustainably grown, destemmed before fermentation, and then matured in American oak barrels, including a small proportion of new oak for added spice and polish.

This is a natural match for grilled meats, barbecued ribs, peppered steak, lamb chops, or slow-cooked dishes with rich, savoury sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to let the aromatics and layered palate fully open up.
