Ridge Vineyards’ Lytton Springs is a true California Zinfandel benchmark, sourced from the historic Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. First made in 1972, it remains one of the estate’s most celebrated wines, carrying forward a legacy that has made Ridge a reference point for classically styled, age-worthy Zinfandel blends.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows an exceptionally dark, almost inky color. The nose opens with layers of ripe blackberry, blood orange, pepper, liquorice, tobacco leaf, and dried flowers, giving it both richness and lift. On the palate, it is generous and full-bodied, with impressive depth and a layered, echoing flavor profile that mirrors the aromatics. Zinfandel leads the blend, supported by Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah, adding structure, spice, and dark-fruited complexity. The wine has the concentration to age beautifully for several years, gaining nuance and softness over time.

Production
The fruit comes from sustainably farmed vineyards in Dry Creek Valley, where the warm Sonoma terroir helps the grapes achieve full ripeness while retaining freshness and character. The grapes were destemmed before fermentation, and the wine was then matured in American oak barrels, with 10% new oak and the remainder aged in barrels that were 1 to 4 years old, preserving fruit purity while adding subtle complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for grilled or slow-cooked meats, barbecue, braised short ribs, lamb, and hearty Mediterranean dishes. Serve it at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for about 30-60 minutes if drinking young to let the aromas and texture open up fully.
