Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2019 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards’ Lytton Springs is one of California’s classic old-vine Zinfandel blends, sourced from the historic Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. First made in 1972, it remains a benchmark for the style, combining concentration, balance and unmistakable regional character in a large-format 2019 magnum that’s built to impress now and over time.

Tasting Notes
Deep and inky in the glass, this 2019 opens with an intense aromatic mix of ripe blackberry, blood orange, pepper, liquorice, tobacco leaf and dried flowers. The palate is generous and layered, with bold dark fruit, spice and savoury complexity unfolding across a full, mouth-filling texture. The blend’s structure from Petite Sirah and Carignan gives the wine grip and depth, while Zinfandel brings plush fruit and warmth. It has the concentration to age well for several years, with the magnum format offering even slower, more graceful evolution.

Production
The fruit comes from sustainably farmed vines at Lytton Springs in Dry Creek Valley, a site known for warm days, cooling influence and old vines that produce naturally low yields with remarkable flavour intensity. The grapes were destemmed before fermentation, then matured in American oak barrels, with 10% new oak and the rest in seasoned barrels between one and four years old, helping preserve fruit purity while adding subtle spice and structure.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for richly flavoured dishes such as grilled ribeye, barbecued pork ribs, lamb chops, slow-cooked beef, or hearty mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and while it can be enjoyed without decanting, an hour in a decanter will help the wine fully open up.
