Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2018 is one of California’s benchmark Zinfandel blends, showing why this historic site in Dry Creek Valley has earned cult status among red-wine lovers. First produced by Ridge in 1972, it combines ripe, expressive fruit with structure, depth, and the signature balance that has made Lytton Springs a reference point for the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a very dark, concentrated color that hints at its richness. The nose opens with layers of ripe blackberry, blood orange, pepper, licorice, tobacco leaf, and dried flowers, creating a complex and inviting aromatic profile. On the palate, it is full-bodied and deeply flavored, echoing the aromatics with wave after wave of dark fruit, spice, and savory detail. The blend has ample power, but it is well-composed and polished, with enough structure to age gracefully for several years and continue developing nuance.

Production
The fruit comes from the Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, a warm California terroir well suited to old-vine Zinfandel and its blending partners. Ridge farms the grapes sustainably, and the fruit is destemmed before fermentation. The wine is then matured in American oak, with 10% new barrels and the rest ranging from one to four years old, helping preserve fruit purity while adding subtle complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for grilled or roasted meats, barbecue, lamb, short ribs, and richly seasoned dishes, as well as hearty mushroom-based cuisine. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if you want the aromas to fully open and the texture to soften.
