Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2022 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards’ Geyserville is one of California’s most iconic Zinfandel-based wines, and the 2022 Magnum continues that legacy with exceptional depth, balance, and character. Sourced from some of the winery’s oldest vines, including parcels over 100 years old, it brings together Zinfandel with Carignan, Petite Sirah, and a touch of Alicante Bouschet for added structure and complexity. First produced in 1966, Geyserville has long been celebrated as a benchmark for old-vine field blends in Sonoma County.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep dark ruby color, hinting at its concentration and richness. The nose opens with dark cherries, warm spice, cola, mint, and a subtle earthy undertone that adds dimension without overshadowing the fruit. The palate is layered and vibrant, with ripe dark fruit leading the way, followed by pomegranate, rose petals, cocoa, and a whisper of smokiness on the finish. Despite its intensity, the wine remains remarkably balanced and polished. Thanks to its structure and old-vine concentration, it should age beautifully for many years, gaining even more nuance and complexity over time.

Production
Geyserville Vineyard sits in Sonoma County’s Californian wine country, where old vines and well-drained soils help produce naturally concentrated fruit with strong site character. The blend is built around Zinfandel, typically about 70%, with the remainder made up of Carignan, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet, depending slightly on the vintage. Winemaker Eric Baugher ferments and matures the wine for 13 months in American oak, keeping new oak to around 10% so the wine’s fruit expression stays front and center.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for grilled or slow-roasted meats, barbecued ribs, lamb, and richly flavored dishes with spice or smoke. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses and hearty mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and if possible, give it some air before pouring to let the aromatics and layered fruit fully unfold.
