Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2022

Ridge Vineyards’ Geyserville is one of California’s most iconic old-vine Zinfandels, first made in 1966 and still consistently rated among the region’s finest. Built around heritage vineyards with some of the oldest parcels in Ridge’s portfolio, it blends power, precision, and unmistakable character in a way that has made it a benchmark wine for decades.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color that hints at its concentration and ripeness. The nose is layered and inviting, opening with dark cherry, spice, cola, mint, and subtle earthy tones that add complexity. On the palate, ripe dark fruit takes the lead, followed by pomegranate, rose petal, cocoa, and a delicate smoky edge that carries into a long, balanced finish. Despite its richness, the wine remains remarkably poised, with the old-vine fruit and careful oak treatment keeping everything in harmony. It has the structure to develop further in bottle, though it is already beautifully expressive now.

Production
Geyserville Vineyard is home to some of Ridge’s oldest vines, with certain parcels reaching up to 130 years of age. The blend is led by Zinfandel, typically around 70%, with Carignan, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet contributing depth, color, and spice. The wine is aged for 13 months in American oak, with only about 10% new barrels, allowing the vineyard’s fruit-driven personality to remain front and center.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile, food-friendly red that pairs especially well with grilled lamb, barbecue ribs, roasted game, hearty pasta dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour if drinking young to let the aromatics fully open up.
