Ridge Geyserville 2018

Ridge Geyserville 2018 is one of California’s most iconic old-vine Zinfandel blends, combining depth, freshness and remarkable balance. First produced in 1966, it comes from some of the oldest vines at Geyserville Vineyard, with individual parcels reaching up to 130 years of age. Zinfandel leads the blend at around 70%, supported by Carignan, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in the glass, this expressive red opens with aromas of dark cherries, warm spices, cola, mint and subtle earthy nuances. The palate is generous yet composed, bringing layers of ripe dark fruit alongside pomegranate, rose petal and cocoa. A hint of woodsmoke emerges towards the long, savoury finish, while well-integrated tannins and lively acidity keep the wine beautifully balanced. Already drinking with impressive harmony, the 2018 Geyserville has the structure and concentration to develop further in bottle. It should reward careful cellaring over the medium to long term, while remaining accessible with decanting today.

Production
The wine is sourced from Ridge’s historic Geyserville Vineyard in California’s Alexander Valley, where old vines contribute concentration and complexity. The blend varies slightly from vintage to vintage, although Zinfandel consistently makes up approximately 70%, with Carignan, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet completing the field-blend style. Winemaker Eric Baugher matures the wine for 13 months in American oak, using only around 10% new barrels to preserve the purity and character of the fruit.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. Its dark fruit, spice and supple structure make it a natural match for barbecued beef, grilled lamb, slow-cooked pork, game dishes and richly flavoured sausages. It also pairs well with smoky vegetarian dishes, such as grilled aubergine or mushroom-based recipes. Decant for approximately 30–60 minutes to allow the aromas to open and the palate to become even more seamless.
