Built on Tempranillo with Garnacha and smaller supporting varieties, it stands out for its long aging in barrel and the unmistakable old-school style that has made Viña Tondonia an icon of the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a mature ruby-garnet hue with the graceful evolution expected from long-aged Rioja. The nose is layered and classical, with ripe red and dark fruit, dried herbs, vanilla, spice, and subtle earthy notes that unfold slowly in the glass. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely structured, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a savory, complex core of fruit, oak spice, and tobacco-like nuance. The extended barrel aging brings remarkable harmony and depth, and the magnum format supports even slower development, giving it excellent aging potential for many more years.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards around Viña Tondonia in Rioja Alta, an area prized for its balanced climate and limestone-rich alluvial soils that help preserve freshness and structure. Harvesting is done with great care, and the wine is vinified in the estate’s traditionally hands-off style, with long maturation in oak barrels—around six years for this Reserva—far exceeding the norm and shaping its signature complexity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled game, slow-braised beef, mushrooms, and aged Manchego, as well as richer dishes like lamb stew or duck confit. Serve it at 16–18°C, and while it can be enjoyed straight from the bottle, decanting for an hour or two is recommended to allow its aromas and textures to fully open.
