R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva 2004 is a rare and highly individual white Rioja from one of Spain’s most revered historic estates. Built from Viura and Malvasía and aged for years in oak before release, it captures the traditional style that has made López de Heredia such an enduring benchmark in La Rioja.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a deep golden hue that immediately hints at its long maturation. The nose is layered and compelling, with aromas of dried fruit, honey, toasted nuts, baking spice, and a gentle oxidative edge that adds complexity rather than weight. The palate is dry, full-bodied, and beautifully structured, with lively acidity holding everything in balance. Notes of ripe pear, almond, spice, and subtle savory nuances unfold into a long, elegant finish. This is a white wine with excellent aging potential, though it is already wonderfully developed and expressive.

Production
Sourced from Viña Tondonia in Rioja, where the estate’s old-vine fruit and classical winemaking traditions define the wine’s identity. The blend is 90% Viura and 10% Malvasía, harvested with care and vinified in the traditional López de Heredia style. It spent around six years in old American oak barrels, followed by extended bottle aging before release, allowing the wine to evolve slowly and gain its signature depth and complexity.

Food & Serving
This Gran Reserva works beautifully with rich dishes such as roast poultry, buttery white fish, lobster, mushroom risotto, and mature cheeses. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 12–14°C, and consider decanting briefly if you want the aromas to open up more fully, although it can also be enjoyed straight from the bottle.
