R. López de Heredia Viña Bosconia Tinto Gran Reserva 2004 is a beautifully traditional Rioja from one of Spain’s most revered historic cellars. Built on a classic blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, it combines old-world elegance, impressive depth and the kind of patience that has made López de Heredia a benchmark for age-worthy Rioja.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour with the gentle brick-toned edge you’d expect from extended ageing. The nose is layered and refined, unfolding with ripe red and dark berries, leather, tobacco, warm spice and a subtle earthy note that adds further complexity. On the palate, the wine is elegant and well structured, with silky tannins, fresh acidity and a savoury core wrapped around flavours of berries, dried fruit, spice and a touch of vanilla from the oak. The finish is long and persistent, with the balance and complexity to drink well now, while still offering plenty of potential for further cellaring.

Production
Viña Bosconia comes from Rioja terroir shaped by a long winemaking tradition and the cooler, more classical side of the region. The 2004 vintage is made from 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 3% Graciano and 2% Mazuelo, and was aged for at least ten years in total, including five years in old American oak barrels followed by further bottle ageing before release. That slow, traditional maturation is central to the wine’s finesse and layered complexity.

Food & Serving
This Gran Reserva is a natural match for lamb, game, grilled meats and mature cheeses, especially dishes with rustic, savoury flavours. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour if drinking now to help the aromatics open up fully.
