Description
Quintus Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2020 is a polished Bordeaux from one of Saint-Émilion’s most exciting estates, combining depth, finesse, and the precision expected from a modern Grand Cru Classé. Sourced from a privileged hillside site on the right bank, it reflects both the character of its limestone-rich terroir and the estate’s relatively young but ambitious identity within Bordeaux.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with vivid youthful intensity. The nose is refined and layered, offering ripe black cherry, plum, violets, graphite, cedar, and subtle baking spice, with a mineral edge that speaks to the estate’s limestone slopes.
On the palate, the wine is structured yet supple, with concentrated dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a fresh, balanced core that gives the 2020 vintage impressive poise. It has the shape and clarity for further development over the next 10–15 years, gaining complexity with time in bottle.
Production
Quintus is located on a high point in Saint-Émilion, where clay and limestone soils bring freshness, tension, and elegance to the blend. The estate’s vineyards are carefully managed to emphasize low yields and optimal ripeness, and the fruit is typically harvested parcel by parcel to capture each site’s character. Vinification is carried out with precision, using modern cellar techniques and attentive ageing in oak to build structure while preserving fruit purity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or mushroom dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to let the aromatic complexity and textured tannins fully open.
Producer
Quintus is part of the historic Saint-Émilion landscape, though the estate itself has become increasingly recognized in recent years for the quality and consistency of its wines. Backed by significant investment and a strong focus on terroir expression, it has quickly established itself as a serious name on the right bank, with Grand Cru Classé status underscoring its standing in the region.
