Description

Quintodecimo Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio 2021 is a masterfully crafted white blend from Campania, bringing together the region’s signature grapes—Falanghina, Fiano and Greco di Tufo—into one harmonious, deeply expressive wine. Named after its creator, the renowned oenologist Luigi Moio, this cuvée showcases the finesse, precision and mineral-driven intensity that have made Quintodecimo one of Southern Italy’s most admired estates. It is a refined, ageworthy white that captures both the sun-drenched richness and the volcanic tension of its homeland.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio shows a luminous straw-yellow color with greenish highlights, hinting at both freshness and concentration. The nose is complex and layered: ripe citrus (lemon zest, pink grapefruit) and stone fruits (white peach, apricot) mingle with notes of acacia blossom, wild herbs, and a distinct mineral, almost smoky, undertone typical of Campania’s volcanic soils. Subtle hints of honey, almond and delicate spice emerge with air, adding further depth. On the palate, the wine is both generous and precise, with a silky, almost creamy texture balanced by vibrant acidity and a firm, salty backbone. Flavors of citrus and orchard fruits are joined by pear, yellow plum and a touch of tropical nuance, carried by a long, persistent finish marked by chalky minerality and a gentle, elegant bitterness reminiscent of grapefruit pith and almond skin. While already very expressive in its youth, this 2021 has the structure and energy to evolve beautifully over the next 6–10 years, gaining more complexity, honeyed notes and tertiary nuances with proper cellaring.

Production
The Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio is sourced from carefully selected vineyards in Campania, where Falanghina, Fiano and Greco di Tufo thrive on predominantly volcanic and calcareous-clay soils at varying altitudes. This diverse terroir contributes both richness and tension, with pronounced day–night temperature swings preserving aromatics and acidity. Grapes are typically hand-harvested in small crates at optimal ripeness to ensure pristine fruit quality and precise sorting. In the cellar, the varieties are vinified with meticulous attention to detail—often fermented separately to respect their individual character—using temperature-controlled fermentation to capture aromatic purity. A period of maturation on fine lees, with gentle bâtonnage, builds texture and complexity while maintaining freshness, before the final cuvée is assembled and bottled to express the most complete and harmonious blend of the vintage.

Food & Serving
This elegant Campanian white is a natural match for refined seafood dishes such as grilled sea bass, shellfish, seared scallops, octopus and crudo, as well as lobster or prawns in delicate citrus or herb sauces. It also pairs beautifully with risotti (especially with seafood, saffron or spring vegetables), fresh and semi-aged cheeses, poultry with light cream or lemon-based sauces, and dishes featuring Mediterranean herbs, fennel or artichoke. Serve chilled but not too cold, ideally around 10–12°C (50–54°F), to allow its aromatic complexity and texture to fully express themselves. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes, or simply opening the bottle in advance, can help the wine open up, especially in its first years, revealing more of its floral, mineral and spicy nuances.

Producer
Quintodecimo is one of Campania’s benchmark estates, founded and led by Professor Luigi Moio, a highly respected oenologist and one of the key figures in the modern renaissance of Southern Italian wine. Located in the heart of Irpinia, the winery has become synonymous with precision, purity of fruit and a deep, almost scholarly understanding of the region’s native varieties, particularly Fiano, Greco and Aglianico. Through low yields, meticulous vineyard work and an exacting, terroir-driven approach in the cellar, Quintodecimo has helped elevate Campania to international attention, regularly earning critical acclaim for the clarity, depth and ageworthiness of its wines. The Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio stands as a personal and symbolic expression of the estate’s philosophy: a refined, layered white that synthesizes the best of the region’s grapes and terroirs into a single, distinctive wine.
