Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Port is typically dense and dark, with a black-purple core that hints at its formidable structure. The bouquet is intensely expressive, showing layers of espresso, blackberries, licorice, tar, and floral notes, all carried by a deep, almost monumental aromatic intensity. On the palate, it is gorgeously sweet, full-bodied, and richly concentrated, with impressive depth and a long, persistent finish. The wine has the structure and balance to age beautifully over many years, and while it is already expressive, it has the potential to evolve gracefully well into the future.

Production
Sourced from Quinta do Noval’s estate vineyards in the Douro, this Vintage Port reflects the power and character of the region’s steep, dry terroir, where old vines and low yields naturally contribute to concentration and complexity. The 1997 release was produced in exceptionally small quantity, with only around 1,200 cases made compared with the estate’s usual production, underscoring the selectiveness of the vintage. Vinification followed traditional Port methods, preserving the wine’s depth, sweetness, and formidable structure.

Food & Serving
Best enjoyed as a contemplative dessert wine, this Vintage Port pairs beautifully with blue cheese, dark chocolate, nut-based desserts, or simply a selection of fine cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature, ideally around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for several hours before serving to soften the wine and allow its full aromatics to unfold.
